Janelle Findlay brings 13 years of teaching experience. She originally began her career with the Calgary Board, and then moved to Vancouver for five years where she taught at an independent school and enjoyed the close-knit, supportive community of staff and students. She was looking for that similar feel here in Calgary and immediately felt welcomed by the Edge family.
Whether it be through patterns in nature, an intriguing puzzle, or a problem that needs tinkering, Janelle loves finding the beauty and wonder in mathematics. She is passionate about offering creative and playful ways for students to gain strong foundations and is driven to make each student leave her class having a mathematical growth mindset and identifying as a “math person”. She began her Masters in Math Education through UBC last year and has since enjoyed embedding project-based, real-world learning into her lessons.
She is excited to be here at Edge to combine her love of sport with teaching. Familiar with balancing academics and athletics, Janelle played volleyball for the University of Calgary Dinos from 2002-2008 during which she won Rookie of the Year, and a National Championship. In her current day spare time, she enjoys skiing and mountain-biking blue runs.
